Rules & Regulations of the Dieppe Gold Blades S.C. Figure Skating is mainly an individual sport and the activities during most of the practice sessions are not orderly. On the other hand, it is important to know that basic rules should be followed for the safety of everyone and to assure that all the skaters can take full advantage of their time on the ice. We ask you to go over these rules with your parents and\or your coach. We encourage all our skaters and coaches to cooperate and to respect these rules in effort to provide a secure environment and appropriate to figure skating. 1. Courtesy! It is essential to respect the rights of others and to be aware of the skaters around you. If you are surrounded with skaters who are less or more advanced, than you, please pay attention, avoid collisions! 2. Every time you start a Free Style session the following stroking is mandatory : · Juniors - 2 laps forward clockwise - 2 laps forward counter-clockwise - 2 laps backward clockwise - 2 laps backward counter-clockwise · Intermediates - 3 laps forward clockwise - 3 laps forward counter-clockwise - 3 laps backward clockwise - 3 laps backward counter-clockwise · Seniors - 4 laps forward clockwise - 4 laps forward counter-clockwise - 4 laps backward clockwise - 4 laps backward counter-clockwise We ask all skaters and coaches to respect and participate in this demand. 4. Please be on time! It is dangerous to do stroking laps while the skaters have already begun their jumps. By respect to your coaches, it is important to arrive on time at your sessions. 5. You should not always jump at the same place, unless you are on private lesson. Please, avoid practicing in the “Lutz corners” (at 10 o’clock and 4 o’clock on the ice surface). Don’t forget, because the approach of the Lutz jump is long and blind, the skater will not see you during this jump. 6. If you fall, please, get up quickly. Remind yourselves that the other skaters will have difficulty seeing you if you are lying on the ice. Please, do not stay there much longer than necessary. 7. Please, no loitering on the ice! This wastes precious time on the ice and presents a new danger for the other skaters. The staff members (coaches and executive members) can ask you to get off the ice if you do not conform to these rules. 8. Jumps and Spins are not allowed during the Skills sessions. If you do not participate in the Skills sessions, you should remain off the ice until the next session, unless you want to practice your footwork. 9. For safety reasons, Dance sessions in pairs are not allowed except with a coach. 10. No personal objects, with the exception of a box of tissue (Kleenex) and a bottle of water are allowed on the ice. Please, make sure that the used tissues (Kleenex) are thrown into the garbage. Also, make sure you have all your personal items (jackets, sweaters, etc.) with you at the end of the session and when you leave the arena. 11. You must ask permission to leave the ice and must let a staff member (coaches) know where you are going. 12. A skater, whose solo is being played, has priority on the others. The skaters in private lessons have the priority on all others, except those who have their solo played. 13. Immediately after the session has ended, it is important to get off the ice before the Zamboni begins the flood. 14. The stroking sessions are mandatory. If you cannot participate in it, you must inform the stroking coach before the stroking session begins. 15. Swearing will not be tolerated at any time, whether in the dressing rooms or on the ice. If the situation arises, discipline action will be taken. 16. Do not leave any personal effects (money, jewellery, etc.) in the dressing rooms. The Club will not be responsible for any lost items. 17. Dressing rooms, bathrooms, and music room must be kept clean. 18. Proper skating attire should be worn during the sessions. The women should wear a dress or leggings and the men should wear trousers appropriate for Figure Skating. (No baggy clothes). Running shoes are required for the off-ice sessions. (You cannot wear running shoes that you usually wear outside). 19. If you have a medical problem, your parents should inform the Club and your coach. Please give us an emergency plan of action. 20. Coaches can give private lessons during these sessions : - Preschool – during Preschool or Canskate sessions - Canskate – during Preschool, Canskate or Junior sessions - Junior – during Canskate, Junior or Intermediate sessions - Intermediate – during Junior, Intermediate or Senior sessions - Senior – during Intermediate or Senior sessions The skater can go on the ice, 5 minutes (maximum), to warm up before his/her lesson, and must leave immediately after the lesson is over. 21. A skater cannot change his/her schedule unless permission has been granted by Carole Thiffault or Diane Duguay.
